Elizabeth Edwards takes on Hillary
Jul 17th, 2007 by Ben Weathers
Apparently her recent confrontation with conservative pundit Ann Coulter left Elizabeth Edwards with a thirst for blood. Edwards has struck again, this time going after Democratic frontrunner Hillary Rodam Clintion.
In an interview with the online magazine, Salon, Edwards attempted to punch holes in the notion that Clinton was the “women’s candidate,” for the 2008 presidential election. Edwards argued that the title best suites her husband, former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards who is competing against Clinton for the Democratic nomination.
“She’s just not as vocal of a women’s advocate as I would like to see,” Edwards said. “John is.”
Edwards went on to offer a particularly sharp criticism of Clinton’s approach to providing universal health-care.
“On the issues important to women, she has not…well, health-care, that’s enormously important to women, all the polls say, and what she says now is, we’re going to have a national conversation on health-care,” Edwards said. “And then she describes some cost-saving things, which John also supports, but she acts like that’s going to make health-care affordable to everyone. And she knows it won’t. She’s not really talking about poverty, when the face of poverty is a woman’s face, often a single mother.”
Clinton’s campaign has declined to comment on Edwards’ remarks, while a spokesmen for the Edwards campaign would not speak directly to CNN about the remarks regarding Clinton, other than to say Elizabeth Edwards was just taking up for her husband’s ability to offer solutions.
Edwards also spoke about her disagreement with her husband on the issue of gay marriage and how she is handling her cancer treatments while continuing to campaign on behalf of her husband.
Elizabeth Edwards has taken the gloves off and proved herself a force to be reckoned with. It’s almost like being diagnosed with cancer has given Edwards a new reason to fight, and nothing left to lose.
However…
John, everyone is going to keep questioning your masculinity as long you keep getting $2,000 hair-cuts and letting your wife stand up for you.
