O’Reilly…Oh Really??? Nas vs. Fox News???
Jul 24th, 2008 by Jason Goodson
Multiplatinum hip-hop artist Nas, along with Colorofchange.org generated over 620,000 signatures petitioning the Fox News Channel for what it labels as its constant behavior and “racist” language, in particularly certain commentators comments towards Senator Barack Obama and his family. I applaud the effort, but I’m looking at this kinda sideways, because I’m a huge Nas fan, and I think his music is great, but really, Nas? I mean Talib Kweli or Common, I can see, but I scratch my head a little only because I’ve heard a few songs where Nas wasn’t exactly trying to empower or uplift women in them. I mean the entire hip-hop culture is highly misogynistic, and I’m afraid he was a major contributor to this especially in the 90’s when Hype Williams videos had three things, rappers, jewelry, and women in scandly clad clothing. Again I can see the message, but the delivery is kinda contradictory. Also, this is looking beyond the fact that I watch, and actually like Fox News. I can even see some of the pundits on there being completely bias, but then again alot of news personalities are. There aren’t that many Tim Russerts around anymore in the industry, the kind that give it to you straight and aren’t in anyone’s corner. Whether its CNN and MSNBC Fawning over Senator Obama, or Fox News Channel Fawning any and all things Republican, there is obviously not alot of honest journalist or networks that keep politicians honest and accountable, no matter what their political affiliation is.
Here is a track off of Nas’ new untitled album, the song is called Sly Fox. Its a shot at Fox News, and is a witty little dig at the news station.
