McCain UP/Obama DOWN…and vice versa
Jun 23rd, 2008 by C. Todd Williamson, III
The Obama and McCain camps released their fundraising reports. John McCain raised more in the month of May than he has in any previous month with $21.8 million, matching Barack Obama’s $21.9 million. Obama’s numbers are actually the lowest campaign fundraising numbers that he’s produced in a while. During the Democratic primary against Hillary Clinton, Obama was averaging $35 million/month.
On the flip side, a new Newsweek general election poll shows Obama with a 15 point lead over McCain at 51% to 36%. Some traditional red states are turning purple according to new polls that show McCain losing ground in GOP stronghold Georgia. McCain and Obama are virtually tied in the Peach State (McCain 44%-Obama43%) with former Georgia Congressman Bob Barr claiming 6% in the poll. Many speculate that this could lead Obama to pick former Georgia U.S. Senator Sam Nunn as his running mate.
