Tuesday, June 3, 2008 marks a day in American history as the Democratic Party has selected Barack Obama, the first minority to earn the nomination of a major American political party. According to the Associated Press, Barack Obama has secured the magic number of 2,118 pledged delegates. AP is reporting that they have received word through trusted sources that Obama has clinched the nomination by enough announced and unannounced superdelegates. Obama stood just 28.5 delegates short and counting at press time.

*Update*-Sen. Hillary Clinton says that she’s open to the vice presidency on the Obama ticket “if it can help the party win in November.” This was reiterated to her Congressional colleagues via conference call.
