Vice Presidential Handoff???
Nov 12th, 2008 by Jason Goodson
Vice President Dick Cheney is going to meet Thursday with Vice President Elect Senator Joe Biden at the Naval Observatory. The Vice President and his wife are expected to meet with the Senator and his wife to take a tour of the residency and also to most likely discuss several official policy issues. I tell you this is a smooth transition like none other, people can say what they want, liberal or conservative but President Bush and the soon to be President Obama administration are on point with the transferring of executive power. I can only imagine that this will be a very interesting conversation the Vice President will have with Senator Biden concerning serious issues and policies that Vice President Cheney’s office has implemented over the last eight years. Vice President Cheney being one of the most powerful Vice Presidents ever and being deadly serious regarding the War on Terror as well as other foreign policy issues this transition is going to be fully vetted and hardly photogenic.
Although all the parties can appreciate the historic nature of the campaign, the work has got to get done and classified information has to be dealt to the new administration so there are no terrorist attacks or other serious crisis that occur in this country. The time for politics is clearly over, and the time to serve the country is obviously now. As much as the Bush administration is criticized for some of its policies, it is good that they are being deadly serious and moving quickly and being more prepared to hand off the keys to the car to President Elect Obama’s administration. It has already been reported that the President wants Senator Obama’s transition to be smoother than his was going into the White House from President Clinton.
I can see Vice President Cheney taking this even more seriously, due to the nature of his role in President Bush’s administration and how he sees the office in general. Senator Biden was choosen politically to do much of the same, but from all the rhetoric that comes from the left about Vice President Cheney I’m sure that Senator Biden will treat the role in very much the same way. This will be especially true for Foreign Policy matters and situations concerning foreign terrorism. I know I would sound like a hypocrite if I also didn’t mention that I plan not to see any complaints on any of Senator Biden’s uses of Executive Power coming from the right either, especially concerning the serious nature of the office and the condition our country faces dealing with the War on Terror. With all of the Senator’s knowledge on Foreign Policy though, this goes along with Senator Obama, their are some things that they will learn and have to adapt to, in order to keep our country safe. It’s easy to play Monday morning quarterback when you’re the starting point guard for the Basketball team sitting in the bleachers during Friday Night Lights, but when the coach calls you over and tells you to put some equipment on because your starting the next down, it’s time to get serious.
