Power Endorsement
May 14th, 2008 by Jason Goodson
This is a good day for the Democratic Party, and more importantly Senator Barack Obama. It is looking more likely that Senator Obama is going to be the Democratic Party Nominee for President this fall. Today he received a huge endorsement from Senator John Edwards. It couldn’t come at a better time either. With Senator Hillary Clinton coming off of her 2-1 victory in the West Virginia Primary, this endorsement is the beginning of the end for the Junior Senator from New York.
This isn’t a sure sign that she should drop out of the race, but it is the beginning of what is steadily becoming a sad reality for Senator Clinton’s Campaign. Major Party Leaders saying she should drop out, several super delegates changing loyalty to Senator Obama, and now this endorsement for Senator Obama from Senator Edwards, is a huge blow to her campaign. Senator Edwards spoke about bringing the Democratic Party together, as he introduced Senator Obama. He also spoke positively about Senator Clinton and said that Senator Obama will be a stronger candidate in November because of her work. He also emphasized the need for the party to come together to beat Senator McCain this fall.
This endorsement gives Senator Obama a very much needed boost. After the Reverend Wright situation, losses in Pennsylvania, Indiana, and West Virginia, the Obama campaign will take this endorsement and will continue its momentum going all the way to the Convention. Senator Obama is already beginning to sound like the nominee and his campaign’s tone will only reflect that more in the coming weeks. Getting an endorsement from another major former Democratic Presidential candidate speaks volumes. Although, it is interesting (and funny) that two former Democratic Vice-Presidential candidates are endorsing the opposite candidate this fall. Senator Joe Lieberman endorsed Senator John McCain, which of course just goes to show the type of character McCain has and also his large appeal to some independents and Democrats.
The only thing that can top this endorsement is if former Vice-President Al Gore endorses Obama, and officially puts the Clinton campaign to sleep. I have a feeling that will happen soon though. I think that the only reason the only other big time Democrat, former President Clinton isn’t endorsing Obama is because his wife is running. Obama is the front runner right now and I can see something major happening between now and June, and then Senator Clinton will gracefully bow out. Another major Democratic party endorsement or a back room deal with Senator Clinton to phase her out before August.
