Justice Is Blind…and so is the Government???
Mar 14th, 2008 by Jason Goodson
Former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer resigned officially, and on Monday March 17, 2008 Lieutenant Governor David Paterson will be begin his term as New York State Governor. Governor Paterson will become the country’s first blind governor, New York State’s first African-American governor, as well as the fourth African-American governor the country’s every had. That is a lot of interesting precedents that he has set right there. Great as all this may be, Governor Paterson has a lot of work to do in the upcoming months. Primarily making the state of New York’s April 1 budget deadline. Governor Paterson and Former Governor Spitzer campaigned and stated that they were not going to raise New York residents personal income taxes. Governor Paterson now has the task of having to work with the New York State Legislature to get this done as his first priority after getting in office. This might not be a difficult task, because Governor Spitzer did not have a lot of friends in the New York State Legislature, and he actually made quite a few enemies within the State Senate. This should not be a problem for Governor Paterson, being that he was in the state Senate and he has been known to be able to work better with both sides of the aisle, unlike Governor Spitzer. I am not sure though, only time will tell to prove if Governor Paterson will be an effective executor or just a placement figure waiting the term out. The Governor’s term ends in 2010, so he has two years to get his agenda through and be effective, if he wants to continue to be the state’s Governor beyond 2010. Well at this point anything he does in office will be better than his predecessor.
