Well New York Governor Eliot Spitzer is getting an enormous amount of pressure to resign. The Governor being linked to a call girl ring earlier this week is looking like he might have to step down. The former New York Attorney General has made several enemies who are now starting to mount support for him to either resign or face impeachment. Even Federal Prosecutors might bargain a deal with him allowing him to resign without facing an indictment.

This is a sad day for the Democratic Party though. What happened to the good old days when the Democrats didn’t have to pay for there women? Where are the FDR’s, JFK’s, and “Slick Willy” Bill Clinton’s. They did not pay for there affairs (well Clinton did, and now as a result of it his wife is running for president….but that’s a whole other issue). But seriously though, this really is sad. Here was a man who has a wife and three teenage daughters, and he is the governor of one of the most powerful states in our union, and he gets caught in a huge prostitution scandal.

The scandal broke Monday when allegations came about that the Governor spent several thousands of dollars on a call girl named Kristen at a Washington D.C. hotel the night before valentines day. The investigation began when his banks began noticing irregular but frequent cash transfers from several accounts and filed suspicious activity reports to the IRS. These accounts were then traced back to the Governor, and this in turn initiated public corruption investigators to open an inquiry. They also found out that the Governor was a repeat customer with Emperor’s Club VIP, a high end call girl service.

According to some reports this type of activity has been going on over the last several years. I personally do not feel sorry for him, he spent his entire career fighting corruption, has broken up prostitution rings, and battled many in the financial industry. Among his enemies there were several that were on Wall Street.  He gained the reputation of being the “Sheriff of Wall Street”.  He had a high rising political career and looked to only go higher. His relentless and zealous fights to clean up corruption and any other high profile illegal activities raised his political profile, but at the same time brought about many enemies, who find it ironic that what got him to the top is what is actually going to bring him down in the end.
