Another One Bites The Dust

The confession of Louisiana Senator David Vitter is just another sad example of how the ethics and moral values of a lot of these country’s leaders just isn’t there. The United States Senator’s former telephone number was discovered on the client list of the “D.C. Madam”, Deborah Jean Palfrey, whom had a prostitution ring which had among it many high profile clients inside the beltway. He of course apologized for his sinning and pass indiscretions; however I think this is just another huge hypocrisy. This social conservative senator is just the latest political leader to fall from grace because of his behavior.
Interestingly enough I don’t think the hypocrisy is because he is a social conservative or because he is a Republican, but because he is a leader and also a public servant. There is a certain level of decency and respect they should have above others. Yes, I understand he is human and we all make mistakes, however, I believe that is still no excuse to act in an inappropriate fashion as a political leader. I do not excuse Democrats of their behavior either, just because they aren’t typically social conservative. Perfect example is of Democratic Congressman William Jefferson ironically also representing Louisiana, who is currently being indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of corruption. I would also lump former President Bill Clinton into this mix as well for his extramarital affair and scandal, as well as current presidential candidates such as Newt Gingrich, Senator John McCain, and Mayor Rudy Giuliani. These people’s personal indiscretions are all questionable and have shown some of our leaders are not exactly the standard of moral or ethical leadership.
There are some out there who are notable public servants and do actually hold certain standards and practice what they preach. However, a good number also have shown their true colors or have not been caught and are not the golden standard of leadership in public office, which is tragic. I know politician’s personal lives should be just that, personal, and that has nothing to do with how they govern or legislate. However, they still should have a higher standard due mainly to the fact that they are our public servants and they serve us the people. They should be ethical and highly respected leaders because if they won’t be, then who will?

BACKGROUND:
1. In the South, “social-conservative” is a catch phrase for a latent racist. There is a big difference between a southern social conservative and a person who has strong religious beliefs. Most “liberals” have strong religious beliefs, while most social-conservatives in the south are former hypocritical southern democrats.
Can’t Help It Moment…Deep down, these southern social conservatives do not recognize the rights or legal status of Blacks, Jews, Catholics, Northerners, Foreigners, Educated, or Women. Need proof…Check the history books…
2. William Jefferson’s situation is not in the same category because his is about corruption. Let us use him for a broader discussion that can be compared with Rep. Duke Cunningham, Rep. Robert Ney, and Rep. Tom Delay. The $100K Bill is chump change compared to Duke, Bob, and Tom’s millions. Tom tried to bribe a Congressman with $100K on the House floor for heaven sake. It is interesting to note that some like to mention William Jefferson’s name in the same discussion as …William Jefferson Clinton, but $100K Bill should be thrown under the bus for being stupid.
3. Since the vile bogey man Bill Clinton is in the equation, let us pretend that it would be a felony if any Congressman was untruthful or was involved with the same situation that they were expounding about on the floor of Congress.
THE DISCUSSION:
Talking about Sen. Vitter needs to be put in the proper perspective, and look at who he replaced to get his start in Congress. He replaced Republican Representative Robert L. Livingston, the speaker-in-waiting who resigned in 1999 as a result of a sex scandal. Not just any old run-of-the-mill sex scandal, but one that was uncovered after he was a ring leader the House impeachment process of William Jefferson Clinton. Livingston lied and should have been tried.
Livingston’s resignation was not because of one, or two, or three concentual affairs, but to paraphases his own words, he was so good that there were too many for him to count. He had to resign because he had more skeltons in his closet than you could find in a major city during Halloween, or better still would have made “you-know-who” feel third rate.
Then we can speak about Newt Gingrich. Newt was having an affair while his wife was undergoing cancer treatments and got a divorce. While the impeachment of “you-know-who” was going on, Player Newt was having an affair on wife #2. Yep, while Newt was railing on the House floor, he was doing the wild thing. Newt lied and should have been tried.
I must have missed something somewhere, but I can not remember John McCain having an overactive sex problem. On the other hand, Big Rudy has more problems than a rabbit in a Tennessee hounddog training camp. Rudy lied and should be tried.
BUT…There is one other person left out…U.S. Representative Bob Barr. Big Bob first had to overcome the fact that he has kinky hair and a wide nose, so he was rather sensitive when some thought he was of another race. Well, while he was the main spokesman during the House impeachment hearings of “you-know-who,” he was knocking-the-boots with an associate while his faithful wife was at home. Oh yeah, he got a divorce not long afterwards…and he lied and should have been tried.
Had any of the above been put in the situation of “you-know-who,” would they have told the truth? We already know the answer because, they lied to their constituents about their morals before, during, and long after they were elected. In fact, Newt and Robert Livingston have the nerve to continue to speak about morality.
I have the following observations for consideration:
1. Interstate strip joints cater to truck drivers and NASCAR “Dads” and not tree-hugging liberals.
2. Cat-calls and demeaning comments about a woman’s anatomy in bars make would make rappers sound tame. Heck, it is not normally safe for liberals to be in such an environment.
3. Keeping you woman barefoot and pregnant is not a liberal notion. Just ask Mrs. Vitter and her four crumb-crushers.
3. Think about the Southern Baptist Preacher, whose wife blew him away because he wanted to have too much….Sex…
4. Think about the Evangelical Preacher who lied about a homosexual affair, and cured himself with only two-weeks of therapy.
5. Andrew Young called them “Smart-Ass-White-Boys (SAWB),” while others called them “Golden Boys.” Webster calls them Hypocrits.
Let us see what Mrs. Vitter does in this situation. Will she be villified if she stays by her man like Sen. “You-Know-Who.” Or will she take her SWAB hypocrit to the cleaners, and upset the Pope?
Well the purpose of my article is not to excuse anyone regardless of what party they come from. I mean I might just be mistaken or been eating on to much of that good old clam chowder but I find that corruption and lies, as well as unproper conduct as the leader of the free world is much more sever and serious than that of a representative from a certain district. Regardless of your party or ideology you can’t dissagree with that, and to excuse that or even make an arguement that its the lesser of the other evils isn’t useful either. The article was meant to simply state that those people in leadership positions should ALL be respected and have high ethical behavior while in office, being that they are public servants, regardless of their party.
